Fall 2018 UW Seattle Master of Social Work applications are currently being accepted, with a January 3rd deadline to apply; please see the schedule below for upcoming MSW information sessions and webinars.  For undergrads, the Fall 2018 Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare major application will become available this February, with an April 17th deadline (we only admit BASW majors for Fall quarter). See details below. Please also note that UW Tacoma offers BASW and MSW programs (separate applications & deadlines), so encourage prospective students to consider all options.  The information below is specific to Seattle only.

The Fall 2018 Master of Social Work (MSW) application is available now, with a deadline of January 3rd, 2018.  We only admit students once per year, for the Fall quarter. Admission is competitive, and our committee evaluates candidates holistically.  The GRE is not required, and we welcome applicants from all undergraduate majors to our full-time, two year program (MSW Day) and part-time, three year program (MSW Extended Degree Program). An accelerated 10-month MSW Advanced Standing option exists for candidates meeting additional criteria, which includes already holding a Bachelor’s degree in social work/social welfare.  Relevant social work & human service experience is important for all candidates.

Fall 2018 Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare (BASW) The departmental Fall 2018 BASW application for UW’s Social Welfare major becomes available in February, with an April 17th deadline to apply. We only admit applicants once per year, for Fall quarter. Students can explore our Apply to BASW page for details and prerequisite information, and are encouraged to register now for our February 7th BASW Open House event! We seek students who are passionate about social justice and affecting social change. Graduating seniors pursue jobs in social service agencies, nonprofits, education & human service organizations, etc. as well as graduate school programs in areas including social work, law, public health, public policy, health sciences, and more. Courses in the major include: Cultural Diversity and Social Justice, Social Welfare Practice, Human Behavior and the Social Environment, Social Welfare Policy, Social Welfare Research, etc.

Our SSW Admissions office offers drop-in advising hours most Thursdays from 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00 (Room 23 on the ground floor of the School of Social Work building), or students can call us at 206-543-5676 to schedule an appointment for a different day. Note: drop-in advising hours will not be offered on Thursday, November 23rd or Thursday, December 21st due to holidays/staff schedules.
