Volunteer Opportunity – EAS 2017 Healthy Choices Fair

Volunteer at the Environmental and Adventure School’s (EAS) 2017 Healthy Choices Fair.

EAS is a choice/alternative middle school with a unique, applied way of facilitating student learning. It is located within the Lake Washington School district, in Kirkland, WA. The Healthy Choices Fair brings together teachers, parents, health care professionals, and community experts for a three-day conference offering a unique approach to providing 140 middle school students with health information.

Interactive sessions and keynote presentations address topics such as: drug and alcohol awareness; emotional well-being; positive social interaction; environmental health; physical health and fitness; nutrition; and healthy lifestyle decision-making.

The Fair is coordinated by EAS parent volunteers who work with the teaching staff to ensure the relevance and appropriateness of each breakout session. Each session is scheduled for one hour (45-50 minute presentation, with time at the end for questions and journaling) with 10-25 kids ranging in age from 11 to 14.

It’s helpful if speakers can make their session a casual mix of presentation/discussion and student interaction/participation. Power points and interactives are commonly used.

If this sounds like an interesting adventure to you, we would truly appreciate your involvement. This year, the fair will be held on Jan 24 (Tuesday), Jan 26 (Thursday), and Jan 27 (Friday).

Please let us know if you are interested and able to lead one or two sessions by sending an email by October 25th to:
