Undergraduate Internships – UW Surgical Outcomes Research Center

General Internship Information:

SORCE (http://depts.washington.edu/sorce) is a multi-disciplinary research center focused on improving surgical outcomes and quality of patient care on a local, regional, and national level. The U-Prep program was established to get undergraduate students involved in research and quality improvement projects at SORCE. Students register for SURG 499 for the credit/no-credit internship (add code required). In addition to project-related work, students in the internship program complete two small individual literature review projects, have the opportunity to interact with senior level research staff and faculty members, and are able to observe surgeries at UWMC.

We require a 6 month commitment (2 consecutive quarters), but will extend the internship up to 4 quarters. Additionally, interns are expected to be in the office at least 6 hours per week (2 credits).

For Spring 2016, the U-Prep program at SORCE is looking for interns for seven different projects – the attached document outlines the various projects that cover a wide array of learning objectives. Some projects are geared more towards communications and public relations while others focus more on quality improvement and research in medicine.
