Health Innovation Practicum

I wanted to make you aware of a new 2-credit course we are launching this fall, the “Health Innovation Practicum.” The course is taught by Sam Browd from the UW Medical School, and Emer Dooley, from the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, and is meant for upper division undergraduate and graduate level students.

If you have students who are interested in translating their academic learning to developing innovative solutions for today’s healthcare problems, this course would be ideally suited to them. There will be a number of guest speakers, including professors who have launched businesses, senior managers from local health-related companies, and advisors who can speak to the unique aspects of our healthcare system.

Attached is a flier describing the course as well as additional information about the optional follow-on Health Innovation Challenge, a student team competition that runs from fall through winter quarters. The HIC is an exciting, fast-paced program that culminates in a pitch event in front of a room full of industry professionals who pick the winners.
