Three Student Job Opportunities

The International & English Language Programs has three student job opportunities available. These are great jobs for students that have an interest in working with and on behalf of international students; are good with details; are able to handle a complex and busy work environment; are able to work both independently and as part of a team; and are willing to ask questions.

Student Assistant:

UW International & English Language Programs is looking for a student assistant. The primary unit to be served is the Campus Intensive English Programs, assisting and reporting to the Director of Student Services. We are a busy office, serving over 700 international students per quarter, and are looking for someone who: has an interest in working with and on behalf of international students; is good with details; is able to work both independently and as part of a team; is able to handle a complex and busy work environment; and is willing to ask questions.

Position responsibilities:

· Maintain e-mail correspondence with students

· Manage mentoring program

· Assist with tracking student attendance and send attendance emails

· Assist with tracking other student data as requested

· Respond to sponsored student requests to provide admission and enrollment extension letters

· Report out-of-the-ordinary questions and special student situations to the Director of Student Services for advice about how to proceed.

· Maintain the CIEP blog and Facebook sites and make regular program posts.

· Lead student workshops when requested – Applying for College; Conversation Club, etc.

· Assist with record-keeping for sponsored students (Financial Guarantees, Promissory Notes, Mid-Quarter reports, Final grades, etc.)

· Arrange equipment and sometimes rooms for weekly student information sessions; develop announcements for students; and maintain documentation of sessions

· Create informational handouts and presentations on topics of interest to International students

· General administrative support, including: making copies, files, printing file labels, filing, receptionist coverage, creating correspondence, information packets, certificates, data compilation, data entry

· Word processing; Excel.

· Assist the IEP Academic Advisor and Director of Campus Programsas needed

· Assist with Orientation activities that are often held during academic breaks

Dates: Must be able to start by week of June 1st, continue through at least June 2016

Hours: Must work 16 to 19.5 hours per week, spread over four to five days per week.

During school breaks could be up to 40 hours/week (full-time)

Rate: $11.00 per hour

Position qualifications and requirements:

· Currently enrolled as a UW student through June 2016

· A commitment to helping the organization serve students in a timely and professional way; a strong interest in student services

· Interest in cross-cultural communication

· Highly developed organizational skills

· Able to think on feet, ready to adapt to changes and situations as they come up

· Strong attention to detail

· Good communication skills with students, instructors, and staff

· Proficient with English language; other language knowledge helpful

· Experience with Facebook and blogs

· Experience studying a second language, living or studying abroad and/or interacting with international students in the U.S.

· Able to follow directions and clarify procedures, perform tasks with accuracy and attention to detail, and follow through on tasks assigned

· Willingness to contribute ideas and expertise to improve student services

· Familiarity with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

· Familiarity with fax machines, email, and copying machines in a business setting

Administrative Student Assistant:

UW Educational Outreach is looking for an Administrative Student Assistant. The primary unit to be served is UW International & English Language Programs (IELP). This position will assist and report to the Program Support Supervisor. We are a busy office, serving over 700 international students per quarter. We are looking for someone who is friendly and outgoing, has an interest in working with international students, is able to work both independently and as part of a team, takes initiative, and is a quick learner able to handle a complex and busy work environment.

· Manage and recruit volunteers for the Language Exchange Program and Ambassador program.

· Maintain e-mail correspondence in a timely and professional manner with students and volunteers

· Assist with Student Activities: 4 – 5 weekends and one evening each quarter

· Assist with Intensive English Program Orientations (week before each quarter begins), and End-of-Quarter Ceremonies

· General administrative support including, but not limited to: making copies, filing, receptionist coverage, creating correspondence, assembling orientation and course evaluation packets, preparing certificates, preparing mailings, data compilation, and data entry

· Regularly assist with receptionist coverage

· Create campus and downtown student Weekly Planner in Publisher

· Word processing

· Assist the IELP Student Services staff as needed

Position qualifications and requirements:

· Currently enrolled as a UW student through June 2016

· Fluent English speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills

· Work on some pre-determined evenings and weekends during the quarter

· An outgoing personality and a strong interest in student services and cross-cultural communication

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, think on feet, be ready to adapt to changes and situations as they come up, be flexible, and have a sense of humor

· Willingness to contribute ideas and expertise to improve student services

· Experience studying a second language, living or studying abroad and/or interacting with international students in the U.S.

· Highly developed organizational skills

· Ability to follow directions, ask clarification questions, perform tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and follow through on tasks as assigned

· Familiarity with MS Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and social media

· Familiarity with fax machines, email, and copy machines in a business setting

· Possession of valid driver license and good driving record

Student Immigration and Activities Assistant:

UW Educational Outreach is looking for a Student Immigration and Activities Assistant. The primary unit to be served is UW International & English Language Programs (IELP). This position will assist and report to the Manager of International Student Advising. We are a busy office, serving over 700 international students per quarter. We are looking for someone who is friendly and outgoing, has an interest in working with international students, is able to work both independently and as part of a team, takes initiative, and is a quick learner able to handle a complex and busy work environment.

· Co-plan and facilitate IELP Student Council meetings

· Update all student contact information changes with registration office and in immigration database

· General administrative support including, but not limited to: making copies, filing, receptionist coverage, creating flyers, assembling information packets, preparing certificates, preparing mailings, data compilation, and data entry

· Maintain IELP Twitter account

· Reserve event/reception spaces

· Make U-CAR reservations

· Assist the IELP Student Services staffas needed

Position qualifications and requirements:

· Currently enrolled as a UW student through June 2016

· Fluent English speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills

· U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency (required for working within immigration database)

· Work on some pre-determined evenings and weekends during the quarter

· An outgoing personality and a strong interest in student services and cross-cultural communication

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, think on feet, be ready to adapt to changes and situations as they come up, be flexible, and have a sense of humor

· Experience studying a second language, living or studying abroad and/or interacting with international students in the U.S.
