SACNAS CONFERENCE in SEATTLE, WA October 11-14, 2012


The Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) National Conference Creating a Healthy World through Science, Diversity and Technology is coming to Seattle, WA Oct 11-14, 2012 at the Washington State Convention Center (Downtown Seattle). The University Of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center are platinum sponsors for this conference. During the SACNAS Conference the UW and the Hutch will be hosting tours at the UW and the Hutch and conducting other activities during the conference.

UW/Hutch departments and faculty will be participating by judging posters/presentations and exhibiting. SACNAS receives up to 3,000 attendees and 300 exhibit organizations. SACNAS acknowledge, celebrate, reclaim, advocate, lead and strengthen Alaska Native, Native American, Latino, Indigenous communities richness of science which contributes to the success of the science innovations in the world.

SACNAS’ purpose is to increase the number of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native American in science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels. To this end, SACNAS supports and encourages underrepresented minorities in their pursuit of advanced degrees in science and inspires in them the motivation to be leaders.

You’re invited to be a part of this experience by submitting a poster or attending the conference. See below for more information. NOTE: They give away 1,000 travel scholarships and they go by fast.

Abstract & Travel Scholarship Submission

Undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to present their research to a national audience of peers and professionals while practicing their presentation skills in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Travel Scholarships
SACNAS offers travel scholarship awards for students to attend theNational Conference. The award includes round-trip airfare to/from Seattle, Washington and lodging through the conference dates.

NOTE: Abstract submissions and travel scholarship applications are independent of each other. If students are interested in submitting only a travel scholarship they do not need to submit an abstract and vice versa.
